About the position:

Principal Design Engineer supporting FPGA, ASIC and board design efforts within the Actel Protocol Design Services Group in Mt. Arlington, NJ. This position requires expert knowledge in the design, synthesis, and verification of HDL (VHDL and/or Verilog) designs targeting FPGA and ASIC technologies. Additional expertise in board design, verification, and signal integrity analysis is desired.

This engineer will be responsible for working with the Actel team to support various projects, markets, and technologies and must be able to do all of the following:

  • Work with customers and Actel sales to define project requirements;
  • Define FPGA, board, and system architectures based on project requirements;
  • Efficiently implement designs in HDL;
  • Synthesize & place and route the design targeting FPGA and ASIC technologies;
  • Achieve timing closure;
  • Verify the design through the development and simulation of self-verifying test benches;
  • Provide technical leadership to other team members;
  • Present technical data and project status to customers

Additional desired skills include:

  • Board design with schematic capture tools;
  • Signal integrity analysis and resolution;

  • DSP algorithm modeling using Matlab (or similar tool), and implementation in an HDL language;
  • Wireless communications design and verification;

  • Analog design and simulation

Experience and Education:

  • BSEE or equivalent, MS preferred
  • 15+ years of relevant experience
  • FPGA/ASIC design experience with working knowledge of VHDL and Verilog
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with industry standard tools such as Synplicity, ModelSim, PrimeTime, FPGA P&R etc
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Experience providing technical leadership to other engineers
