Responsibilities

Conduct and lead research projects in high density electronic power conversion area for GE businesses, such as GE Aviation, GE Healthcare, GE Energy and external customers, such as US government agencies.



You will:



* Conduct and lead advanced power electronics research in high frequency and high density power electronics for military and commercial electric power systems for aircrafts, ships, and land-based vehicles, and medical power electronics



* Invent new power electronics circuits, control and systems ideas for military and commercial electric power (air, marine and land), radar power processor, and medical power electronics (MRI and CT)



* Formulate and propose research programs for GE internal and external customers



* Conduct power electronics research involving modeling and simulation validation, building lab scale prototype, circuit and system testing, writing technical reports, and preparing and delivering presentations for customers and engineering leaders.



* Lead technical projects with global research team members.

Qualifications


* YOU MUST BE ABLE TO SATISFY THE REQUIREMENTS OF SECTION 19 OF THE FEDERAL DEPOSIT INSURANCE ACT.



* Doctorate in Electrical Engineering (or Masters in Electrical Engineering with at least 5 years post degree experience in high frequency and high density power conversion technologies).



* Profound knowledge and experience in high frequency and high density power conversion technologies including:



* Expertise and experience in latest power semiconductor devices - both Si based and SiC and GaN based wide band gap power switches.



* Expertise and hands-on experience on high-frequency hard and soft switched topologies and control and high frequency power amplifiers, such as class D, E, and F amplifiers.



* Expertise on real time and embedded digital controls for power converters with FPGA and DSP - hardware, firmware and software



* Expert on advanced magnetic material and component, advanced capacitor technologies and energy storage components



* In-depth knowledge on high frequency to very high frequency (20 kHz - 100 MHz) power converter design, components and layout



* Familiar with circuit and system simulation tools such as Saber, Matlab/Simulink, or PSPICE.



* Unrestricted work authorization in the US is required for BS or MS level candidates, but will sponsor visas for PhD-level candidates.



* Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.



* Must be willing to take a drug test and submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process.



* Must be 18 years or older.

Desired

* Unrestricted work authorization in the US is preferred



* Familiar with one or more commercial and military electric power systems including architecture, requirements, and components for aircraft, marine and land applications



* Familiar with power processor for radar application



* Familiar with MRI or CT/X-ray applications



* Knowledge of high temperature and low temperature power electronics, advanced thermal management, and advanced digital control with DSP and FPGA.



* Knowledge or familiar with electromagnetic and thermal simulation tools such as Ansoft Q3D and Fluent Icepak.



* High curiosity with broad technical interests



* Creative and demonstrated capability for innovation



* Ability to work as part of a team



* Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Electronic Power Conversion Lab leads cutting edge research and development in power electronics supporting mid to long range GE products for GE businesses, such as Oil & Gas, Energy, Aviation, Healthcare, Consumer & Industrial, Security, Water, and external customers, such as DOD and DOE in the following three areas:Utility Power Conversion - renewable energy systems (wind, PV, and fuel cell), oil & gas (LNG, high speed compressor drive, and subsea), critical power and energy storage interface; High Density Power - aircraft power generation & distribution, ship power & propulsion, land based vehicle drive, high voltage, pulsed and plasma power, energy harvestSpecialty Power Electronics - medical power electronics (MR gradient and RF electronics), lighting electronics, water desalinationAs a High Frequency Power Electronics Engineer, you will report directly to the Lab Manager for the Electronic Power Conversion Lab.
